Recently, I have been working on my third unit this year, which is academic writing. In our third assessment, we were asked to do multiple tasks of academic writing based on our chosen topic. However, the topic must be categorized as technological issue.
Weapons technology seems to be a lot more complex than what it seems to be. During this unit, I’ve learned about background histories of various weapons ranging from stone age to modern age. Histories that relates with the inventions of firearms, fighter jets and not to forget the devastating weapon, atomic bomb. Besides histories, there is still more to explore such as the specific components of weapons. Furthermore, research on weaponry tells us about its damaging capability that it could produce. In addition, during this report I could also research and react to an argument. My argument is about people using guns irresponsibly. This reaction helps me to develop my critical thinking towards the argument. Weapons technology is indeed an interesting topic to do.
On the other hand, I’ve learned the academic writing as much as my personal topic. In this assessment we were asked to write four types of academic writing, which requires different skills for each of them. The partial essay is something new to me. I’ve learned much about focusing on thesis and topic sentences that gives clear direction, which is supported by several evidence. While in the visual text, I could expand my creativity in doing one of the academic writing. To be able to do various academic writings, it was actually challenging and fun at the same time.
My success is that I’m able to find an interesting topic. A topic which I really enjoy writing about it. My failure lies at the skills required for each academic writing, especially reaction text. I couldn’t write a really strong reaction towards the case. However, in the future, I would improve my skills in the academic writings by reacting more often towards an argument. So that in the future, I could master the information about my topic and also my academic writing skills.
